following sea: flowing with the waves, going with the direction of the waves
6 year old Wendy on a quest for sea glass and shells
in Monterey, CA.
I have always been drawn to the ocean. My earliest memories are backdropped by a sandy beach, a resonating sound of rushing waves, and a mission to comb the beach for shells and sea glass. I've been treasure hunting beaches since I was six years old. I began this hobby with my grandmother at Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, CA. Together, we would collect our "sea jewels" and then go back to her art studio and create artwork with our findings. Throughout the years, I have collected many jars full of sea glass and shells from the coasts of Northern California and Hawaii.
While attending college in Santa Cruz, CA, I took my first jewelry class and began making jewelry for myself with what I could find on the beach. When I moved to Oahu, Hawaii years later, I was instantly inspired by the beauty of the islands and the aloha spirit. I like to think that I capture the essence of the Hawaiian laidback lifestyle with my jewelry and hand painted trucker hats and totes. My pieces of art can be worn by a local beachgoer AND used to spice up a lil black dress. My desire is to make each piece colorful, organic, playful, fresh, free spirited, and ultimately captures the Aloha Spirit.
Each piece of jewelry, hand painted trucker hat, and tote is a little work of art. No two pieces are exactly alike, therefore what you are wearing is considered one-of-a-kind. All jewelry pieces are drilled, hand sawn, hammered, polished, and assembled with care. I work with Sterling Silver, Brass, and 14k Gold Fill metals. All hand painted totes and sewn bags are reusable and perfect to use at the Farmer's Market, your local grocer, or the beach. All hand painted trucker hats and totes are Scotch guarded for extra protection and wear.
